Sean Fraser, the minister of immigration, joined other task force members on August 29 to inform Canadians and immigrants of the government’s efforts to reduce the backlog and enhance the immigration process.
Fraser is an ex-officio member of the task team established in June to shorten lines for passports and immigration paperwork. The task team highlighted recent developments and the underlying pandemic-related causes for the considerable increases in demand for travel and other government services during a news conference. The task team has been meeting weekly all summer to determine actionable priorities and develop immediate and long-term solutions.
