International students are now temporarily permitted to work more than 20 hours a week during the academic year in Canada.
As of November 15, 2022, until December 31, 2023, students will be permitted to work more than 20 hours per week, according to a recent announcement from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). This is a one-time measure designed to address Canada’s labour deficit, particularly in industries where student workers have historically predominated, like food services, retail, and hospitality. There are no limitations on the kind of employment, though.
The new policy allows the 500,000 foreign students studying in Canada to work extra hours.
