After successfully immigrating to Canada, if you do not naturalize to receive your citizenship, you must continually renew your permanent residence status every 5 years.
This client came to us in hopes of renewing his PR card. Since the client had already met the residency requirement of 2 years, the expert team at Altec was able to quickly prepare all the necessary documentation needed and submitted his renewal application. It was successfully approved in just one month!
Key points: The most important requirement when renewing your permanent residence status is to have been physically present in Canada for at least 2 years (730 days) within the last 5 years. Applicants are only eligible for renewal if they have met this requirement.
However, if you do not meet residency requirements but still meet the following conditions you may be eligible for renewal:
- Accompanying a Canadian Citizen (spouse/common-law partner/dependent child) abroad
- Full-time employment abroad with a Canadian employer
- Canadian public servant/official stationed abroad
- Humanitarian and compassionate conditions
If you plan to renew your PR card but do not meet the residency requirements, please contact us as soon as possible for a consultation.
