A parliamentary vote demanded that Immigration Minister Sean Fraser present a strategy for enhancing temporary residents’ access to pathways to permanent residence. Fraser was given 120 days from May 11 to react, past the House of Commons’ scheduled session days.<\/div>\n
“It is within the House’s rules and practise to wait for the bill’s introduction and first reading before its content is being made public,” wrote Heather Bradley from the Office of the Speaker. “If the government chooses to develop a plan as suggested in M-44, and if these changes to expand immigration pathways for temporary residents in Canada were to form into a bill. To introduce such legislation, a minister would have to wait until the House was in session.<\/div>\n
Jasraj Singh Hallan, the Conservative Party’s shadow minister for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), said he anticipates the plan being introduced as soon as the House reconvenes the next week.<\/div>\n
