ALTEC’s Insight | Countdown to Canada’s Express Entry New Proof-of-Funds Rules

640 22 1

Beginning July 28, 2025, all Express Entry candidates under the Federal Skilled Worker (FSWP) 以及 Federal Skilled Trades (FSTP) programs must update their Proof of Funds in their EE profile to meet revised minimums. Announced by IRCC on July 7, this measure ensures newcomers have sufficient resources to successfully settle in Canada.

What’s Changing?

IRCC has increased the required settlement funds across every family size to better reflect today’s living expenses. For example:

Who Must Update?

  • FSWP & FSTP Candidates: Required to upload updated Proof of Funds by July 28, 2025.

  • CEC & Work-Permit Holders with Employer Offers: Exempt—but we still recommend updating to avoid system errors.

Failing to update by the deadline will render your profile non-compliant, disqualify you from receiving an ITA, and force you to re-establish eligibility in a future draw.

How to Submit Proof of Funds

IRCC accepts an official bank letter that includes:

  1. Bank Letterhead & Contact Details

  2. Applicant’s Name & Account Number

  3. Average Balance (Last 6 Months) & Current Balance

  4. Details of Any Loans or Debts

Not Acceptable: Real-estate assets, personal loans, or statements without institutional letterhead. (Spousal funds can be used if properly documented.)

Why You Can’t Ignore This

  1. ITA Eligibility: Express Entry checks Proof of Funds before issuing invitations.

  2. Profile Validity: Incomplete profiles are withdrawn from the pool.

  3. Ranking Impact: The update timestamp locks in your ranking—late updates don’t harm your score but a missing update will.

  4. Annual Adjustments: IRCC revises these thresholds yearly—staying current avoids last-minute rushes.
