According to the latest news from our team of experts, a new temporary immigration program for foreign construction workers in the Greater Toronto Area has recently begun. However, the program has strict restrictions on quotas. It will allow 500 workers and their families to obtain permanent residency, even if they do not have any status in Canada. The requirements are as follows: 1. They must have been living in Canada for more than 5 years; 2. They must pass the CLB Level 4 language test (equivalent to IELTS four points); 3. They must have a family member in Canada as in: – a partner/spouse (married or cohabiting), or child, and the spouse or child does not have to be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident; – or parents, grandparents, grandchildren, brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles who already have Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status; 5. They must have legally entered Canada initially; 6. They must have worked full time in the GTA construction industry for three or more years in the past five years. This program only has 500 spots. 400 of those spots are for applicants who already have a work permit and have tax records, while the remaining 100 spots are for applicants who have never held a work permit. The program’s immigration application must first be submitted to the Canadian Labor Congress (CLC), which will determine the number of places on a first-come, first-served basis. All information submitted to CLC will be kept confidential to the government. We have just learned that the quota has not been entirely filled and there are still remaining spots left to apply.
