Data from the October 2022 Labour Force Survey have been made public by Statistics Canada. Overall, the unemployment rate has decreased from increases between May and September but is still 5.2%, as in September.
Manufacturing, construction, lodging, and food services saw the highest increases in employment, while wholesale and retail trade, as well as the natural resources sector, saw job declines. The private sector added the majority of the new positions, marking the first time since March 2022 that this sector has had a growth in employment.
