CITIZENSHIP APPLICATION
Becoming a Canadian citizen is the final step in fully establishing yourself in Canada. It grants you the right to take part in democratic life, travel with one of the world’s most respected passports, and strengthen your long-term ties to the country. More than just a transition from permanent residency, citizenship represents stability, security, and the opening of new opportunities.

WHO CAN APPLY?
You may be eligible for Canadian citizenship if you meet the following criteria:
- Permanent Resident Status: You must hold valid permanent resident status.
- Physical Presence: You must have lived in Canada for at least 1,095 days (three years) within the five years before applying. Time spent in Canada as a temporary resident or protected person can count as half-days—up to a maximum credit of 365 days. Certain time spent abroad may also count if you or a family member served as a Crown servant.
- Language Skills: Applicants aged 18 to 54 must show adequate knowledge of English or French.
- Knowledge of Canada: Those aged 18 to 54 must pass the citizenship test, demonstrating an understanding of Canada’s history, values, institutions, and symbols.
- Good Standing: You must not be subject to any prohibitions, such as criminal issues, that would prevent you from obtaining citizenship.
