Be a Canadian PR When Applying for Citizenship

Only Canadian PRs can apply for citizenship. Temporary residents, such as foreign workers and international students, are not eligible for citizenship.

Meet the Residency Requirement

To maintain PR status, you must reside in Canada for at least 730 days over the past five years. This requirement doesn’t need to be continuous, and some time spent outside Canada may count towards it.

Maintain PR Status Until Taking the Oath of Citizenship

To be eligible for citizenship, you must not lose PR status before taking the Oath of Citizenship.

Travel Outside Canada with Your PR Card
